Ask a Local #001- Billie from Orange Roofs

Each week we will be asking a local 10 questions, first up is the lovely Billie from Orange Roofs...

1
How long have you lived in St. Ives?

I have lived in St Ives my whole life, other than three years at university!

2
Where do you work in the town?

I work for a small, local, holiday letting agency called Orange Roofs, our office is just on Park Avenue! I’ve worked here for almost three years now and its great. We look after 39 properties all throughout St Ives with a couple in Carbis Bay, Hayle and Zennor. Tourism is such a huge part of St Ives and working with both owners and guests a like helping them have the best experience of St Ives they can has been great.

What is your favourite thing to do in St. Ives when the sun shines?

When it is sunny in St Ives there is nowhere else, I’d rather be than Porthminster beach! The novelty of living right next to tropical looking beaches has never worn off for me and Porthminster beach has been full of so many special memories, so as soon as the sun is out, I am there! Of course, getting a coffee from Yallah en route, but that is where you’ll find me for the day.

4
Feeling peckish, where do you head for lunch?

My favourite lunch spot is actually a little out of St Ives, but it is worth the trip, and this is The Old Forge in Lelant. They have such a delicious and varied menu and they really capitalise on the fresh local produce available to them. My go to order every time is their chicken Caesar salad, it makes me hungry just thinking about it!

5
Still hungry.. best place for dinner?

Porthmeor West, I can’t keep away! The location just perched on west-side of Porthmeor is so dreamy and that’s before we even get to the food. Again, they maximise the freshest local ingredients and seafood, but to be completely honest, I’m there for the pizzas! Their pizzas are the best I’ve had, not just in St Ives, but anywhere! Your trip to St Ives isn’t complete without a Pizza from West. Their team there are great too which just adds to it all.

5
Best spot in St. Ives for a drink?

For me, the best spot in St Ives for a drink is Beer & Bird. Their cocktail menu has such a great variation and if beer is your thing, you will not be disappointed. However, if it is a gloriously hot day, The Sloop is an absolute must.

6
Favourite place to visit in Cornwall outside of St. Ives?

Falmouth has got to be my favourite place to visit out of St Ives. They have so many amazing restaurants, bars and beaches, it’s a really great day/night out!

7
Best thing about living in St. Ives?

I don’t know where to begin with this one! I think the outdoors/beaches/sea have always been such huge part of my life and having some of the most beautiful beaches in the country just a matter of moments from your front door is really something special and something I’d never take for granted.

If you could change one thing about St. Ives what would it be?

Besides the wonderfully unpredictable weather….I think I’d love to see a little more shared focus on the local community, things like the new St Ives Skatepark have been a great incentive I feel.

What would you like to see in St Ives that's not already here

I would LOVE to see a venue or bar with music, live music somewhere to have a little dance after a few rattlers, it’s something that has been really missed here.

10
Would you ever live anywhere else?

At the moment this is an easy no, I love it here. However, if the weather doesn’t sort itself out St Tropez may be calling haha!
